La relation entre Eduardo Chillida et Maeght est l'une des plus durables et des plus fécondes de l'histoire de l'art du XXe siècle. Depuis sa première exposition personnelle à la Galerie Maeght en 1956, l'artiste basque n'a cessé de nourrir cette collaboration exceptionnelle. C'est dans l'atelier d'Adrien Maeght qu'il réalise une grande partie de ses eaux-fortes où il transpose, avec une liberté remarquable, les mêmes préoccupations formelles qui habitent ses sculptures. Réalisé pour le dixième anniversaire de la Fondation, ce bois gravé reprend précisément la forme de deux mains qui se joignent. C'est un geste intime autant qu'artistique, une signature que seuls ceux qui connaissent son œuvre reconnaissent pleinement.
