Le Lézard aux plumes d'or is the result of a collaboration between Miró and art publisher Louis Broder.
The book combines the artist's illustrations with his own poems, originally published in 1945 under the title Jeux poétiques, then reworked to form a single poem.
The lizard mentioned in the title does not appear in the text, and could be interpreted as an alter ego of the artist.
