Created by Picasso during his time at the Madoura Foundry in Vallarius, France, Petit Soleil (“little sun”) was created by the artist in 1968/69. Measuring 4 x 6 3/8 in. (10.4 x 16.6 cm.) , this three-dimensional terracotta plaque with extensive hand-painting is stamped, marked and numbered 'Madoura Plein Feu/Empreinte Originale de Picasso/J 145 75/200 Madoura' (verso), was executed in an edition of 200 and is designated as AR 544 in the artist’s catalogue raisonne.
